Home Learning

Each week we would like the children to complete the following at home:

Phonics and spelling: Please practice reading and spelling the attached word strips each week. On a Tuesday we will check how the children are getting on with the previous week’s words. All the Common Exception Words the children need to be able to spell correctly are now on Spelling Shed. Please spend 5-10 minutes on Spelling Shed a few times a week.

Reading: At least 10 minutes every day. Please comment in the Reading Record so we know how many times you have heard your child read.

Your child will receive one reading scheme book per week, matched to their phonic knowledge. Please encourage your child to read the book 2 or 3 times to consolidate their phonic knowledge, quick CEW recall, fluency and expression.

Numbots: 20-30 minutes each week.

Throughout term 5, please also practise reading the ‘alien’ words and ‘real’ words on the sheets sent home at the beginning of this term. ‘Alien words’ are nonsense words that include the phonemes that were taught in Phase 3 and Phase 5a. Extra practice sheets and the Phase 2-5 GPCs and CEWs (the list of all the phonemes and Common Exception Words the children need to know) are in the Helpful Resources for Home Learning section in the blue box to the right of this page.
