Class Photos and blog

It has been a busy end to Term 4 for Beech Class.

Easter Production:

Beech worked extremely hard practising with Year 4 for their Easter Production. They didn't let their nerves stop them and put on an excellent performance to the rest of the school, their parents and families. Beech Team are incredibly proud of how hard they worked leading up to their performance.

Throughout all the excitement of the school production, Beech Class finished their class novel 'Black Dog' for English and wrote their own version of the story. The children had fantastic ideas for the animal in their story. Our learning focus was on using paragraphs and inverted commas.

Puppy visit:

Flax Bourton children got a special treat when 8x 7-week old puppies came to visit!

Marble Treat:

The class filled their marble jar this term. The class voted at the beginning of the term on their treat and the winning vote was; break the rules day. Children enjoyed coming into school in non-school uniform, colouring their hair, bringing in chocolate and squash and their own toys and teddies. They got a special treat to go to the staff room and have hot cross buns at breaktime!

14th-28th March

Wow, it has been a busy couple of weeks for Beech Class with lots of fun activities!

R.E visit to the Church. Beech Class walked to St Michael and All Angels Church in Flax Bourton and spent the morning asking questions to the Reverand, learning about the Church and drawing stained-glass windows.

Scoot day- Children had fun bringing the scooters to school and having 30 minutes to ride their scooters on the playground and on the path around school.

English- Beech Class created their own versions of our class book 'The Black Dog'.

Comic Relief- we put on our red noses and wore our own clothes to help raise money for people in poverty.

Bristol Bears visitors- 2 rugby players from Bristol Bears visited our school and we asked them lots of different questions.

Drumming workshop- The children got a surprise drumming workshop one afternoon! They learnt about the instruments and made lots of noise!

As well as lots of rehearsing in preparation for our Easter production!

World Book Day March 2022

Beech Class came to school dressed up as their favourite book character to celebrate World Book Day. Everyone looked brilliant!

Wellbeing Wednesday

Beech Class worked in different groups to create garden features for Flax Bourton school. We worked hard to help build bug hotels and paint pebbles for an outside game. We broke up terracotta pots, cut branches, stuff wooden palettes and sand wood. It was a windy and wet day but we had fun!

Week beginning 7th and 14th February 2022

In maths, Beech class continued their learning on multiplication and division. We learnt about multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit and dividing 2 digits by 1 digit. Some of us were teachers and taught our peers how to use counters on a place value grid to solve multiplications with an exchange. We have also learnt how to use the column method for multiplication.

In English, we published our narratives based on the book ‘Cinderella of the Nile’. We read our stories to each other, sharing what we liked about our friends writing.

In R.E, we looked at God’s beautiful creations and discussed if people have followed God’s instructions to look after the world. After drawing a part of God’s creation, we used interesting vocabulary to write a setting description.

In History, we learnt the mummification process by acting out each step and designing our own Canopic jars. We had a quick 2 minute challenge to mummify one of Beech Class using toilet roll.

Maths learning, English story books and setting descriptions about God’s creation

Week beginning 24th January 2022

This week in Maths, we have been multiplying and dividing by 4 and 8. We represented multiplication and division in different ways using multi-link, arrays and bar models.

In English, we continued reading the book Cinderella of the Nile. We learnt about subordinating conjunctions and practised using them in sentences. Beech Class created their own character in preparation for writing their own story next week. We used expanded noun phrases and similes to write a character description.

In R.E this week, we went outside to find amazing objects from nature. We discussed what makes the world wonderful and learnt how God created the world in 7 days. We thought about what we can do to look after the world and keep it how God wanted.

Beech Class turned themselves into Pharaohs!

Egyptian WOW workshop

Term 3

To start our topic learning for Ancient Egypt, Beech Class came dressed to school as Egyptians as part of an Egyptian workshop experience.

They learnt to think like an Egyptian, write in Hieroglyphics, learnt ancient numeracy, created their own Egyptian monsters, looked at interesting artefacts and listening to Egyptian stories.

Term 3 first week back. Back together games, computing skills, teaching each other our new computer skills, outdoor maths learning and personal best handwriting.

Merry Christmas from Beech Class!

Design and Technology. In Term 2, we learnt about different types of lights and how to build a circuit. Beech Class designed their own wooden light box and spent a morning creating their designs. Children used hand drills, glue guns and paint to construct their boxes.

R.E Lego Challenge. In Term 2, we learnt about Noah and the ark and why people follow God. As part of our R.E learning, we worked in teams to complete a Lego challenge building Noah's ark. We had to work together to design an ark and construct using the Lego pieces we were given.

Antibullying week. The whole school wore odd socks to mark the start of antibullying week. We celebrated what makes us all unique! As part of antibullying week, we discussed what bullying is and ways to be a kind to each other.

Stone Age Wow day. Beech Class had a great day when they came in dressed as Stone Age people. We gave ourselves new names, excavated chocolate chips from cookies, hunted animals and gathered fruit and made necklaces.
